Pinterest…Should YOU consider it?

Pinterest is a bulletin board-style, photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage their own “themed” image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, etc. Other users can browse the pinboards for images, “re-pin” images to their own pinboards, or “like” the photos.

Pinterest is a great place to connect with others, and has attracted a more mature demographic audience than other social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. (Note: 72% of users are female with college degrees) Many businesses can benefit from this platform, but businesses that are highly-visual (photo driven) appear to get the biggest boost from this network that focuses mainly on sharing breathtaking images and videos.

At Homesale, we utilize Pinterest as a company (http://pinterest.com/homesale/) by pinning photos from listings on www.prudentialhomesale.com. Once a photo is pinned to our page it helps to increase the listings exposure, The listing may gain even more when other Pinterest users “re-pin” that photo onto their own Pinterest page. Anytime a photo is pinned, it will have a link back to the listing detail page on prudentialhomesale.com.

As a Realtor considering Pinterest, you will first need to decide if you want your account to be personal or for business branding? Many real estate “pinners” use the site to share listings, show the benefits of certain local neighborhoods, display real estate statistics (with charts and graphs), or to explain the basics of real estate. Your valuable professional information can be displayed as a watermark on your photos or in the description area attached to each photo.

Top advice given to Realtors for maximizing exposure on this site is to dedicate boards to specific properties, have a “houses sold” board, have pins that focus on real estate processes, and get your home sellers involved! Encourage them to pin their favorite things about their home and neighborhoods!

It can take a little time to get started on Pinterest, but one major benefit is that your pins won’t disappear into some “lost archive”. Something pinned several months ago can suddenly be re-pinned again and again! What a great way to showcase your spectacular listings, drive traffic to your site, and to share your knowledge and excitement for real estate!
